LiveNeutral DuPont

A Continuing Global Challenge

The need for truly sustainable options for 21st century life remains one of the most critical challenges facing the global community.

As a science company, DuPont has the experience and expertise to put our science to work in ways that can design in – at the early stages of product development – attributes that help protect or enhance human health, safety and the environment.

Through our science, we will design products and processes that pass rigorous criteria for the use of renewable resources, energy, water and materials. We believe this is a direct route to a successful, profitable business that adds value to our customers, their customers, consumers, and the planet.

DuPont has taken action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions

At DuPont, we believe that the science is sufficient to compel prudent action to address global climate change. That is why we began taking action more than 15 years ago, and have reduced our global greenhouse gas emissions by over 70 percent versus 1990 levels. By 2015, we have committed to further reducing our greenhouse gas emissions at least 15 percent from a base year of 2004.

  • Additionally, DuPont is developing products that will help our customers reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
  • These products include clothing, carpeting and fuel made out of corn instead of petroleum; components for solar panels for houses and buildings that will reduce the need for electricity; DuPont™ Tyvek® weatherization system that will help protect houses from the elements and make them more energy efficient, as well many others.
  • Addressing climate change will require that each and every one of us make some changes in how we go about our lives.

DuPont employees around the world have contributed to our company’s efforts to make these reductions as well as helping us to achieve the various other Sustainability Goals established. We appreciate everyone’s efforts towards this progress.

About this Website

Since we announced our 2015 Sustainability Goals in late 2006, many employees worldwide, have asked how they can help make a difference in their personal lives in addressing climate change.

DuPont has partnered with LiveNeutral, a non-profit organization, to create this website for the personal use of DuPont employees and their friends and family. LiveNeutral DuPont will help educate you on your personal impact on climate change by providing a calculator to figure out your emissions footprint for the year. You can get tips on how to reduce your emissions footprint. You will have the option, if you are interested, to make a financial contribution to purchase a carbon offset, which will provide credit against your personal emissions footprint.

DuPont 2015 Sustainability Goals

In October 2006, we announced our 2015 Sustainability Goals, broadening our sustainability commitments by expanding our business offerings addressing safety, environment, energy and climate challenges in the global marketplace. As one of the first companies to publicly establish environmental goals nearly 20 years ago, DuPont is moving beyond internal footprint reduction to adopt market-driven targets for revenue and research and development investment. DuPont also has reset its footprint goals, which largely have been achieved ahead of their 2010 deadline.

“Our top priority is to create value for our shareholders. We will do that by delivering sustainable solutions through science and innovation,” says DuPont Chairman and CEO Chad Holliday. “Many companies say that what’s good for the environment can also be good for business. We have a slightly different view: What’s good for business must also be good for the environment and for people everywhere in the world.”
